       Hospital is a specialized organization in which doctor, nurse, and technical staff are provide various facilities for diagnosis, therapeutic, education and research. 

Aim of Hospital 

1. To provide essential health care for people who suffer in disease. 

2. To reduce the total morbidity and mortality rate. 

3. To provide health education to community people. 

Function of Hospital

3. Research 

4. Public Health Services 

Classification of Hospital 

On basis of ownership 

          1. Government hospital 

          2. Private hospital 

          3. Semi govt.  Hospital 

On the basis of bed capacity

     Large Hospital(>1000) 

     Medium Hospital(<1000) 

     Small Hospital(<500) 

     Very small Hospital(<50)

On the basis of Length of stay:-

         Long term (chronic). The average length of stay of patient is more than 30 days. :- 

        Short term(Acute). The average length of stay of patient is less than 30 days. 

On the basis of System of medicine:-        

    Allopathic hospital 

    Ayurvedic Hospital 

    Homeopathic Hospital 

    Unani Hospital 

On the basis of cost:- 

This is generally two types i.e, Elite Hospital:-- which is provides high technology & advances in medical scjences with equipied Delux room. The room rates are Rs,500 to 1200 per day. Budged Hospital:- The Hospital which meant for moderate budged for low budged persons, e.g Civil & Charitable Hospital

 On the basis of objectives:-

 Teaching cum Research Hospital e.g. AIIMS.

 General Hospital e.g. Distric Head quarters 

Special Hospital e.g. Cancer, T.B.& Cholera.

Organization of Hospital 

   In the hospital organization the most important body is the governing body or Board of Governor or Board of director who has the personality in the field of medical education, research, administration & also in political field.

The Governing body appoints various committees like Executive, Finance, Development, Public relation ,P.T.C, Infection control committee,&. Ethics committees etc. and appoints a Hospital Administrator to get the various function performed like clinical services, nursing services, pharmacy services etc.

Health delivery system in India

In India, the health delivery system is done by two levels i.e.

 (1)--- Health delivery system in Central level &

 (2)--- Health delivery system in State level
